Blockfolio Apologized For Sending Racist Messages To Users

Users of the popular cryptocurrency portfolio tracking app Blockfolio today received push notifications with racist text. They said that the service would be closed for blacks “with an immediate loss of all funds.”

“We advise all users to withdraw funds immediately to prevent their loss,” – said in the text sent out as breaking news about cryptocurrencies.

Among other things, Bitcoin in Blockfolio was renamed “Nigga-coin”. At the time of publication, the application and web interface are not synchronized with the databases. Later versions of the post allegedly contained a link to pornography involving minors.

“We deeply regret the abusive messages posted on Blockfolio today and will resolve the issue as soon as possible. Assets, trading, etc. are not at risk. Only displayed messages were affected, ”the company wrote on Twitter.

Blockfolio was bought by the FTX cryptocurrency exchange in August 2020 for $ 150 million. FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried also apologized for the latest developments.

“Over the next month, I will be leading the security review of Blockfolio’s legacy non-trading features to bring them up to FTX standards,” wroteBankman Freed. – We are distributing $ 10 each to the accounts of all Blockfolio users who have activated trading and those who connect within the next week. None of the Blockfolio team wanted this to happen. But we are all responsible for our product and will do our best to remedy the situation. In addition, today I will be sending a donation to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). A number of other employees of our company will do the same ”.
